A Poem Composed for My Friend a Few Weeks Ago

'Twas the night before finals
And all through the school
Every student was wailing
Just longing for Yule

The notebooks were strewn
On the tables with sighs
In hopes that Saint Acing-Tests
Soon would draw nigh

The children had wrestled
Away from their beds
While factoids and essayists
Thumped in their heads

And Annie in her 'kerchief
And I in my cap
Had just settled our brains
For a long winter's nap

But from the syll'bus
There arose such a clatter
I dragged from my bed
Because my grades matter

Away to the library
I trudged like a snail
Tore open the bindersAnd resumed my wail
