A Brilliant Parody of "O Captain! My Captain" by a friend of mine

O JESSI! my Jessi! our fearful trip is done;
The mind has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
Graduation is near, the tune I hear, the students all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady march, the organ grim and slowing:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the stage my Jessi lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Jessi! my Jessi! rise up and hear the song;
Rise up—for you the hats are flung—for you the provost speaks;
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the chapel crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Jessi! dear student!
This arm beneath your head;
It is some dream that on the stage,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Jessi does not answer, her lips are pale and still;
My comrade does not feel my arm, she has no pulse nor will;
Her diploma printed safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor GPA, comes in with object won;
Exult, O students, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the stage my Jessi lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

Bronte or Austen? That is the question...

Surprisingly enough, I am excited about an upcoming paper. For one thing, we have a long time to work on it, so if I start now, I should be able to turn out a fairly excellent product. For another, we get to choose which work (within limits, of course) we would like to focus on. I have decided either to read a Bronte (excepting Jane Eyre, most likely) or one of the lesser known Austens (like Mansfield Park or Persuasion) because I don't want to read something I have read before (or something that I've seen the movie of because then I already know the basic premise). You may ask why this topic is being posted on my blog. Of all things, why this? In response, I would tell you that it is another of the large questions in life. Not quite large enough to fit into the "five ultimate questions" but certainly large enough to beat "What's for dinner?"

"That's where I'm gonna shoot my picture"

The Abandoned Construction Site

A Poem Composed for My Friend a Few Weeks Ago

'Twas the night before finals
And all through the school
Every student was wailing
Just longing for Yule

The notebooks were strewn
On the tables with sighs
In hopes that Saint Acing-Tests
Soon would draw nigh

The children had wrestled
Away from their beds
While factoids and essayists
Thumped in their heads

And Annie in her 'kerchief
And I in my cap
Had just settled our brains
For a long winter's nap

But from the syll'bus
There arose such a clatter
I dragged from my bed
Because my grades matter

Away to the library
I trudged like a snail
Tore open the bindersAnd resumed my wail

The Unstalkable Me

Because one must be exceedingly careful in these days of debauchery, I have decided to post only a masked picture of myself on the internet.

Let's Begin with a Complaint (as is my usual way)

Do I need a blog? No. Do I have time for a blog? No. I am already a member of Facebook and MySpace, not to mention being privy to other modern conveniences such as email, telephones, and even snail mail at times. Do I really need this to communicate with others? Ah-ha, you thought the answer was going to be no! But, in reality, the answer is yes, in some cases. For example, I wanted to communicate with my dear friend Ann a few insights that I had related to one of her blog posts. In order to write a comment, I had to have my own blog with blogspot.com. Of course, my advertising savvy told me that this is a marketing trick and that I shouldn't succumb. But the urge to post was so strong and the idea of having my own blog started to take shape in my mind...and thus, I am now a blogger.
